Just steps from the iconic Hyde Park and Royal Albert Hall, within the storied red-brick grandeur of Albert Hall Mansions, lies a home that redefines timeless elegance. Originally built in 1879 by famed architect R. Norman Shaw, this Queen Anne revival-style residence has been exquisitely reimagined for a royal family - its interiors now a masterclass in poetic design and layered sophistication.
Entrusted once again to Bergman Design House, the London-based studio co-founded by Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund, this 2,100-square-foot pied-à-terre blends deep reverence for history with bold, modern creativity. “The awe-inspiring Hyde Park and architectural marvels sparked our creative muse,” shares Soliman. That muse unfolds in every space - from the panoramic biophilic wall paneling in the entrance foyer to the bespoke straw marquetry and St. Laurent marble architraves in the private suites.
A Moodboard of London’s Beauty
The design journey begins with light and nature. In the entrance, hand-blown glass wall lights, shaped like delicate leaves, softly illuminate the space, evoking a dreamlike sense of being among treetops. This whimsical naturalism continues throughout, with organic lighting forms and soft hues that speak to the city’s gardens and historic charm.
The living and dining rooms are a symphony of rich royal blues and cognac tones - a palette that balances depth and vibrance with earthy warmth. “This harmonious blend uplifts the mood and evokes a sense of refinement,” says Soliman.
An Artful Marriage of Texture and Form
The material palette is as rich as it is romantic. Custom timber and straw marquetry, tactile wall finishes by Fameed Khalique, Rosa Portuguese marble in the principal bathroom, and curated lighting from Porta Romana, Serip, and Visual Comfort elevate each room with handcrafted luxury. Throughout, accents from Hermès, Loro Piana, and Diptyque layer the home with soft texture and quiet indulgence.
Every design detail is intentional - from the bespoke upholstered beds and joinery by Bergman to the carefully sourced cashmere throws and sculptural accessories by Veronica Einloft.
Honouring the Past, Designing the Future
Transforming a listed historical residence was no small feat. Gaining planning permission to modernise the space - including converting one outdated bathroom into three en suite sanctuaries and creating an open-plan living and dining area - was a challenge the Bergman team met with elegance. Over 11 months, the space was gently reshaped to preserve its legacy while introducing contemporary comforts.
This home is not just a renovation - it is a reverent reimagining. A place where history whispers, design dazzles, and every corner tells a story of regal heritage, modern grace, and London’s ever-alluring charm.
