A Mediterranean-inspired home reimagines Tuscan elegance with a restrained, modern sensibility that invites visitors to discover the beauty of subtle design.

For some, ‘Tuscan’ is considered a dirty word when describing a home that is anywhere other than the Umbrian countryside. Yet, in the heart of Los Angeles’ Valley Village, a Mediterranean-inspired property designed by SLS Properties Inc. challenges this perception with grace and restraint.

Far from being gauche or over the top, the home pays a gentle homage to Tuscan style, seamlessly blending its timeless charm with a contemporary Californian sensibility. Enveloped by serene, lush landscaping reminiscent of the Italian countryside, the property invites you to savour la dolce vita. Olive trees, cypress, rosemary and lavender adorn the grounds, while a gravel driveway brings old-world charm.

‘When people walk into the homes I've built, I want them to feel transported to another destination, inspired by the various places that have influenced my designs, says Shlomi Sfadia, founder and owner of SLS Properties Inc. ‘It’s about merging influences from places I’ve visited with my personal touch.’

The home’s interiors reflect a thoughtful balance of elegance and simplicity. Spanning over 500 square metres, the residence features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a pool house, a cinema room and an outdoor shower.

Natural materials such as reclaimed wood, limestone and plaster create a serene, zen atmosphere, while an open layout maximises light. Bold touches, such as the dark burgundy and green plaster finishes in the pool house and cinema room, lend a sense of sophistication without overwhelming the space, echoing the ambiance of high-end luxury hotels.

Moreover, unique details such as the reclaimed wood train track ties used for the surrounding walls add personality and character. Though initially met with skepticism, these walls now serve as one of the property’s most admired features.
