Perched high above the vibrant pulse of Hong Kong, a 2,000-square-foot duplex offers a rare kind of luxury: tranquility. Located in the exclusive enclave of Chung Hom Kok, the apartment reinterprets the charm of a countryside resort through a contemporary lens - blending warmth, comfort, and an elegant connection to nature.

Crafted by Clement C Studio, the design is the vision of Hong Kong–based interior designer Clement Cheng, known for his refined yet livable spaces for clients such as actress Lin Minchen, model Elva Ni, and INNOTIER founder Juliana Lam. This project, designed for a young Hong Kong couple in their 30s, reflects a shared dream: to make their everyday home feel like a vacation retreat.

“The home is crafted to evoke the perpetual feeling of a holiday escape, providing its dwellers with a welcome haven of relaxation from the vibrant energy of the city,” explains the designer. “The designer reimagined a countryside resort home through a modern lens, seamlessly bringing its warmth and tranquility into the heart of a skyscraper.”

Natural materials and an earthy palette set the tone. Warm wood veneer wraps walls and ceilings, enveloping rooms in a cocoon of calm. “By integrating seamless wood veneer treatments from the walls to the ceiling, we aimed to elevate the overall ambience, offering a cocooning warmth that envelops the entire space,” says Cheng. “This choice of material not only adds a layer of sophistication but also seamlessly connects the ceiling with the rest of the design elements, creating a cohesive and immersive environment.”

Terrazzo surfaces provide contrast, their speckled texture playing off the organic feel of the wood. The addition of dark stainless steel trim gives a sleek edge. “The addition of dark stainless steel trim further enhances the finesse of the design, providing sleek lines and a touch of edge,” Cheng adds.

To enliven the otherwise soothing palette, Cheng introduced soft cyan accents. “To breeze up the palette, we introduced splashes of soft cyan colour throughout the space,” he continues. “This gentle hue adds vibrancy and freshness, ensuring the interior feels lively without overpowering the serene atmosphere.”

The duplex unfolds like a curated story - each room a distinct chapter. Intricate moldings and nature-inspired wall coverings lend depth and texture, while lush greenery and sculptural lighting by Lightsorigin Studio subtly echo the natural world outside. Art is not an afterthought but a key design element.

“A significant aspect of our design is the thoughtful placement of artworks, which serve as focal points within the space,” says Cheng. “These pieces not only reflect the owners' personal taste but also highlight the art pieces as central elements of the interior narrative - for example, the incorporation of a wall painting as the backdrop of the dining area and open pantry. This approach ensures that the home feels curated and personal, with each artwork adding to the overall story of the space.”

Among the home’s most inventive features is a spiral staircase that connects the main walk-in closet to an attic-level fashion archive - designed as a private space for the couple to house and display a curated clothing collection. “This configuration allows privacy for the couple even with a shared wardrobe space,” Cheng notes.

Cheng admits that the biggest challenge was balancing resort-style ambiance with the realities of everyday living. “A key challenge was blending the ambience of a resort with the practicality of a home, creating a space that balances relaxation and everyday functionality,” he says. “Equally important was the seamless integration of the existing landscape, allowing the design to feel both natural and intentional.”

From the terrazzo and wood textures to thoughtful furniture by Flexform, Baxter, and Porada, the design is both grounded and elevated - chic, yet effortlessly personal. Framed views throughout the home capture the changing light and skies, reinforcing the duplex’s identity as a retreat in the clouds.
