Set within the lush, tree-lined streets of Dubai’s Green Community West, this Spanish Revival–style home proves that old-world charm and modern refinement can live beautifully side by side. With its red terracotta roof, stucco façade and arched front loggia, the bungalow honours tradition, while a bold interior transformation by Amna Chaudhry Interiors brings it firmly into the present.
The home belongs to a young family — a management consultant and an early education teacher — who share the space with their nine-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. After years of living in rental properties, purchasing this house marked the moment they truly laid down roots, creating a family home designed for both daily life and generous entertaining.
Design inspiration was guided by how the family lives and gathers. “We love a modern European aesthetic, and we felt it would work well for this home,” says Amna Chaudhry, founder of Amna Chaudhry Interiors. With a beautifully landscaped, pool-centric wraparound garden as the backdrop, the interiors were curated to celebrate views and light, combining the effortlessness of Mediterranean resort living with the drama and grandeur of a more historic, Parisian interior.
Originally, the bungalow’s layout was more compartmentalised, but a full-scale renovation changed that entirely. “We removed several walls to create a more expansive foyer and formal living area,” Amna explains. An extension off the kitchen created a dedicated dining room, while dramatic archways and show-stopping steel and glass doors were introduced to mark the transition between public and private spaces, delivering moments of architectural theatre throughout the home.
Although the brief initially leaned neutral, the project quickly evolved into something far more expressive. “We stepped it up and started introducing dramatic colors in both small and large doses throughout the home,” says Amna. A deep earthy green kitchen, paired with striking Calacatta Verde marble, reflects the wife’s favourite colour, while rich burgundy tones — from the living room sofa to the powder room wallpaper and the main bedroom headboard — speak to the husband’s love of moodier hues. The children’s rooms were equally considered, each with its own tailored palette.
Natural materials ground the boldness of the design. “We as a firm always focus on natural materials that feel timeless and age beautifully,” Amna says. Throughout the home, marble, linen, performance velvets, unlacquered brass and warm woods create a layered yet enduring aesthetic. Practicality was also key: porcelain slab tiles were selected for their waterproof, indestructible qualities, ideal for a busy household with young children and frequent poolside entertaining.
The five-month renovation was ambitious, made even more intense by a tight eight-week design deadline. “We only had about eight weeks to hand over a full design package to the contractor,” Amna explains. Yet the result is a testament to trust and collaboration — a relationship she describes as a “dream client”. Adding a deeply personal layer, the client’s mother, fine artist Nighat Hassan, created two bespoke artworks for the foyer and primary bedroom, embedding family history into the home’s very fabric.
Spanning approximately 400 square metres on a single level, and set on an 11,000-square-foot landscaped plot, the home is now a flowing, expressive space that balances comfort, beauty and personality. It’s a house that honours its Spanish Revival roots while embracing a modern European soul — confident, colourful and designed to be lived in.
