Patrick Lambie’s newly built home on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal is a blend of staggering coastal views, sustainable design and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

Located in the unique coastal paradise of Seaton Estate, former Springbok flyhalf Patrick Lambie’s recently built residence showcases stunning sea views, an expansive greenbelt and a commitment to community living — the ideal location for Lambie and his family.

When designing his home, Lambie prioritised natural light, ventilation and a connection to the outdoors. The decision to incorporate shared bathrooms upstairs, instead of en suites, allows for free airflow and an abundance of natural light throughout. The space also highlights indoor-outdoor living, filled with areas that seamlessly extend into the garden and patio to create inviting zones for entertaining and relaxation. ‘Our design really brings the outdoors in,’ says Lambie.

‘This allows us to enjoy the stunning views and coastal breeze every day.’ Following the architectural and design guidelines of Seaton Estate, set out by the vision of its developers, Collins Residential, the home’s material palette echoes the motif of nature-infused design. It is focused on sustainable and timeless options, such as timber, stone and off shutter concrete. ‘All the materials are both durable and beautiful,’ Lambie explains.

‘Future homeowners should choose materials that will stand the test of time, both aesthetically and structurally.’ The natural palette creates a harmonious blend with the lush surrounding landscape and grounds the home within its coastal setting — allowing the home to evolve gracefully, weathering beautifully rather than deteriorating.

Throughout the entire building process, Lambie worked closely with architect Lisa Rorich and contractor Karl Wang, who embraced the former Springbok’s vision to create a space that reflects his family’s lifestyle. The result is a modern home that intersects comfort and functionality — from the landscaping that emphasises the home’s synergy with nature, maximising lawn areas for his children to play, to the interior that balances contemporary design with practical living.

Patrick and his wife, Kate, were heavily involved in the furnishing and decor inside their home, working closely with esteemed furniture and homeware brand, Weylandts, to curate a selection of pieces that speaks to the family’s lifestyle. The home features a collection that celebrates craftsmanship, materiality and sustainability.

Each piece was thoughtfully curated to ensure contemporary design and nature coexist, creating an ecosystem that embraces the outdoors through textures — from woven tapestries to handcrafted furniture. ‘We wanted a home that was a reflection of us, not just a property that ticks boxes,’ Lambie concludes. ‘A home that suits your needs will always be more fulfilling in the long term.’
