Perched on a dramatic ridgeline in Jackson, Wyoming, this home is a masterclass in the seamless integration of architecture, art, and landscape. Designed by CLB with interiors by WRJ Design, it is both a multi-generational retreat and a living gallery, where sweeping panoramas meet intimate moments for contemplation. “This project is about contrast,” explains Andy Ankeny, AIA, Partner at CLB. “The experiences within this home are variable, and yet the architecture itself is a simple, refined gesture.”

A reflective pool and Jedd Novatt sculpture greet visitors, inspiring the home’s layered geometry and artful design

Approaching the house, visitors follow a meandering road before arriving at a private courtyard anchored by a reflective pool and a commissioned Jedd Novatt sculpture. The sculpture’s intersecting cubic volumes inform the architectural language of the home—a study in layered geometry and discovery. Central to the owners’ vision was creating a home that would celebrate both their art collection and the surrounding landscape. “We’ve blended this rugged Wyoming landscape with the clients’ spectacular art collection and high design goals,” Ankeny adds.

Sandstone, cedar, and blackened steel anchor the home in nature, while warm woods and limestone enrich the interiors

Materiality grounds the residence in its natural context. A linear-cut sandstone base anchors the home to the hillside, while cedar and blackened stainless steel volumes rest lightly above.

Inside, warm woods, limestone and white oak floors complement the softer palette, punctuated with jewel tones inspired by black-and-white photography and bold artworks. “Drawing from my time as Director of Design for Sotheby’s New York and working closely with the homeowner — who also has great knowledge of art and presentation — we created interiors where furnishings and décor are in clear dialogue with the artworks, drawing you forward with a surprise around every corner,” says Rush Jenkins, CEO and Creative Director of WRJ Design.

The interior layout balances private and public zones, with circulation galleries guiding residents through progressively revealing spaces. Highlights include the primary bedroom, where a Horst P. Horst photograph rests on a velvet-upholstered headboard wall, and the butler’s pantry, lacquered in Matisse blue, serving as a personal creative space.

On the lower level, a media room, wine room, and recreational spaces embrace both family living and playful sophistication, with carefully curated pieces like a teal motorcycle displayed as sculpture.

Sustainability is quietly embedded throughout. Triple-glazed windows, regionally sourced timber, and energy-efficient systems ensure this home is not just visually extraordinary, but also responsibly conceived. “These homeowners selected incredible examples of artisan craftsmanship and art, but they are presented in a non-precious way that invites lounging on a sofa, sharing cocktail-hour with friends, and enjoying the incredible range of outdoor activities for which Jackson Hole is famous,” says Klaus Baer, COO of WRJ Design.

The result is a serene retreat that honours its natural surroundings while celebrating the owners’ artistic passions—a home where architecture and art exist in thoughtful dialogue, and every vantage offers a moment to pause, reflect, and breathe in the majesty of the mountains.
