Erissos, an old fishing village with a rich history and now an iconic Greek tourist destination, is home to an architectural gem that recreated the pre 50’s and pre natural disaster Kefalonia, Greece.

The house was built on a vacant piece of ground on the west coast of Kefalonia where there are a lot of abandoned and derelict homes following the 1953 earthquake that devastated the island’s population.

During mid-August over 113 earthquakes were recorded in the region between Kefalonia and Zakynthos, and the most destructive was the August 12th earthquake. The 1953 Ionian earthquake, which is also known as the Great Kefalonia earthquake, almost destroyed the southern Ionian Islands in Greece.

Homeowner Richard Jennings says, “I thought it would be great to build from scratch, a new house in the style of an old Erissos (the area) farmhouse. Indeed most people ask if it was a renovation when seeing it. We have views over the Ionian Sea and the mountains towards Myrtos to the east. The sun sets in front of us too, as you can see.”

The house features 3 luxurious bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The home has a large private living room that leads from the master bedroom and an upstairs area with exotic and expansive views. The downstairs a kitchen/dining room section leads to a beautiful deck that opens out onto a swimming pool. Finally there is a lush garden area peppered with olive trees.
