Located overlooking the iconic Jardin Majorelle, Maison Brummell Majorelle is an eight-room boutique hotel that channels the city’s design heartbeat.

The brainchild of Brummell Projects (a hospitality outfit run by Austrian Christian Schallert) it’s situated between the ‘nouveau’ village Gueliz (famous for its restaurants and contemporary boutiques) and the Medina (Jemaa el Fna) – a bridging of contemporary and traditional Marrakesh.

New Zealand architect Bergendy Cooke (with a team in Marrakesh from Amine Abouraoui) designed this retreat around Schallert’s desire to create a home-like space for design lovers. Three years in the making, the modernist-meets-Moroccan masterpiece blends high-end design, quality finishes and collectable and custom furniture.

Design classics from Egon Eierman and Ingo Maurer complement traditional Moroccan elements like tadelakt and contemporary art (pieces by Spanish photographer Maite Carames and Swedish artist Per Henrik Adolfsson feature and in the rooms you’ll find textile art in collaboration with LRNCE and Marrakshi Life). Local artisans, too, fabricated Bergendy Cooke’s custom designs (brass lamps and tables, bed bases and bedside tables), again highlighting the meeting of worlds.

Traditional breakfasts – Moroccan baghrir or harcha with orange zest, fresh juice and Moroccan mint tea – and dinners are served in the comfortable dining room. The house also has its own hammam with a massage room, steam bath, and heated plunge pool – a true oasis.
