The inaugural Gourmet Awards, sponsored by Valprè and Klein Constantia, launches on 6 December 2016 with a glittering cocktail party at the wine estate.
This year, Gourmet introduces the best in SA restaurants with the newly-launched Gourmet Awards. With seven categories, including Best Tasting Menu, Gold Award for Consistency and Chef Excellence, Best Hotel Restaurant, Decor and Design, Hidden Gem, Reader’s Choice Award (as voted for by the public) and Best New Restaurant. The awards focus on the best of the best in the restaurant industry. The inaugural event sets to announce this year’s winners in each category.
Judging the Awards are Bernadette Le Roux, Gourmet editor and co-owner of Cafe Roux; Neil Roake, the force behind Durban’s Freedom Cafe; Leigh Robertson, editor of Condé Nast House and Garden; and Susan Greig, contributor to Gourmet and well-known food personality.
As a premium spring water with a naturally sweet taste, Valprè is the perfect companion to enjoy with gourmet delicacies, as is the wine selection provided by Klein Constantia.
Valprè has been selected by the Whisky Association as their preferred water choice and was the winner of the Gold Quality Awards at the Monde Selection in Brussels in 2011. Starting out as gentle rainfall, every drop of Valprè spring water spends up to 15 years filtering naturally through the ground. On its long journey through the earth, Valprè’s spring water moves through different soil and rock layers that imbue it with minerals that are responsible for its unique composition. Valprè is the perfect partner for these awards.
Klein Constantia, dating back to 1685, is one of the world’s most beautiful wine estates. Set amidst ancient trees on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with views across False Bay, it’s the perfect location for cool climate wines. The farm produces some of South Africa’s top wines, and with its stunning setting, is an ideal partner to host the Gourmet Awards.
The evening is set to honour those who are shaping South Africa’s culinary scene, in true Condé Nast style.
