‘Pedestrianising’ Fox Street

Jewel City, a safe, green space in downtown Jozi is set to launch on Heritage Day

Located in the eastern CBD of Johannesburg, on the famous Fox Street—right between the Maboneng and Absa precincts—lies Jewel City.

R1.8 billion project has been injected in the redevelopment of Jozi’s inner-city district, which is set to launch on Heritage Day, 24 September.

The new mixed-use precinct will include:

  • 20,000 square metres of commercial office space
  • 7,000 square metres of retail space
  • 1,550 new residential apartments
  • 40,000 square metres in brand new buildings
  • Safe pedestrian urban precinct
  • Fast food outlets and restaurants
  • School
  • Clinic
  • Gym
  • Parking

According to developers of the project (Atterbury), the plan is to open up the precinct which has been closed to the public for several years. It is to ultimately ‘pedestrianise’ Fox Street to create a safe, green space for people to enjoy.

The grand reopening on Heritage Day will see a vibrant living, shopping and office environment spanning six city blocks come to life. Jewel City is set to highlight the beauty of the city and become a space for art, retail a place to call home.
