Step into a brighter world at the eagerly anticipated fifth edition of Spier Light Art, hosted at Spier Wine Farm from 10 March to 10 April 2023. Grab the kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and best friends because this favourite, annual event has a little something for everyone. It’s an interactive, nocturnal adventure in the Spier Wine Farm gardens, featuring experimental light, sound and video artworks from local and international artists. And there will be plenty of good food and wine available.
Since 2018, Spier Light Art has provided a platform for local artists to shine a light on humanity, and its behaviours and philosophies. While battling the irony of hosting a light art festival in the time of loadshedding, the commissioned artists reflect on what it means to live in this beautifully complex and hopefully resilient country. Their luminescent displays set the night time alight, asking questions and inviting interactions from the audience.
Spier Light Art is free to the public. All of the artworks are outside so the best time to visit is at dusk, when the sun goes down and the lights come up.
