At 42, Molife Kumona isn’t just your average maverick in the media space. He is no rookie but a force to be noticed. Struck by a burning passion for media at an early age, it was close to impossible that he would ignore his calling to pursue a career in the publishing sphere. With a career spanning over a decade that kickstarted with freelance writing gigs for various gloss prints, Molife Kumona is a tremendous case of what paying your dues is. Kumona, currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of GQ Magazine South Africa, a role that didn’t just fall on his lap but emerged through a series of interviews, presentations and undoubtedly a proven result of a solid experience in developing and executing content strategies as well as hard work. As part of his key duties in his previous role as a Head of Digital & Online Editor for GQ, GLAMOUR and HOUSE & GARDEN, Kumona was responsible for understanding content consumption trends, audiences and creating visual direction as well as strategies that can be commercialized. A role that also provided a myriad of challenges which he managed to easily nip under the bud following success in the previous role as an Online Editor for iconic Drum Magazine which spanned just over a year. " It was an exciting yet daunting task (as the person leading the team) to understand the brands and be able to come up with ways to not only grow the digital numbers but also grow revenue," he told bizcommunity. Kumona who describes some of his best qualities as an enthusiast and a willingness to learn has a decorated resume with early jobs roles ranging from a Feature's Writer, Picture Editing to Content Production. Another cornerstone which stamps proof to these qualities. He boasts a BA Media Studies degree from Open University, a marketing and media diploma, as well as several digital marketing qualifications from reliable institutions. Kumona has actively participated in other industry related activities such as being a judge for theSA Fashion Week Menswear, Face of Csquared and the SA fashion Week Mini Scouting Menswear Designer. He has also added his expertise as a panelist for Fashion Business Awards and Durban Fashion Fair Talk. Brand collaborations, media profiling and a recognizable front-row face at fashion week as well as taking a jab into runway modeling for some key designers. He has hosted webinars and done some high-profile interviews with some of the most recognized faces in Hollywood. With strong digital marketing background, great leadership skills an established record of growing audiences and building great content, there is no telling the heaps and bounds in growth this inspiring trendsetter's career may go.
