New year, new you can often mean trying to improve wherever you can. 2023 may be the year to do that long overdue DIY home improvement project, embark on that indoor jungle you’ve always wanted or level up your kitchen skills. After all, there’s no time better than the present, right?

Recently, Martha Stewart shared an Instagram post about some kitchen skills you need to know by the age of 30. Now, whether you love or hate it, it’s good to at least have these skills on deck, for hosting or just taking care of yourself.

Making a vinaigrette

A wonderful addition to any salad, a simple vinaigrette can really elevate a meal. And best of all, you can customise it to suit your flavour profile. The dressing usually consists of three core ingredients: high quality oil, an acid base (vinegar) and some seasoning of your choice, from salt to pepper or herbs. Keep these on hand and make it whenever you need it

Mixing a cocktail

Whether you’re into mixology or not, there’s something really delicious about a well-made cocktail. If you’re hosting guests who don’t drink, making mocktails can be a fun activity to do together. Each person can try a different recipe and it’s ideal for the times you don’t want to drink but still want the experience of a well-mixed beverage. From lemon drops to the classic margarita, add at least one cocktail recipe to your skill set.
