The upcoming public holidays are perfect opportunities for entertaining friends and family in your home. Take a look at these few easy tips from co-founder of Mobelli Furniture + Living, Alon Sachs, to help you become the host with the most.

Make a meal of it

What is quality time with your family, without a meal? Make sure there’s place for everyone with an extendable table.

‘This is the ideal solution for entertaining. Leave it closed when it is only a small family dinner and fully extend it when you are expecting plenty of guests,’ says Sachs.

Comfortable dining chairs are a must, you’ll want to linger over your meal. For impromptu guests, consider extra seating options such as stack able chairs or a bench.

Stick to the theme

Making use of pastel décor and colours are an easy way to brighten up your home. Scatter cushions in light shades of blue, pink, green, yellow and purple will give your indoor space a fresh new look.

While you’re at it, give your table a quick update with the latest in décor. Try colourful vases, trays, which always come in handy when entertaining, or bowls with unique and colourful designs.

It’s playtime

Use sectional seating options to transform your living room or outdoor areas, by moving the pieces to make a corner for the to take part in fun activities like children’s arts and crafts, or indoor games. When they’re done playing, the seating can easily be rearranged for afternoon cocktails or after-dinner drinks.

Drink up!

A drinks trolley will become your favourite entertaining tool over the long weekend. Easy to move around and great for small spaces, it can be used both indoors and outdoors. A drinks trolley is not only a stylish way to serve drinks; it can also double as a snack bar or shelving unit.

Sachs suggests looking for the following when selecting a drinks trolley:

1.Choose one that will fit in your space and can be moved without bumping into other furniture pieces.

2.Go for a drinks trolley that will suit your home’s overall style. “A drinks trolley with sleek and simple lines is always a good option. It looks good on its own but also won’t clash with your existing décor and furniture,” Sachs says.

3.Try moving the trolley in store to ensure your drinks trolley is easily movable and has a sturdy base.

Sleep easy

Having enough room when guests come to stay can prove challenging, but Sachs suggests investing in a sleeper couch to increase your bed space. Today’s sleeper couches come in a range of shapes and sizes, perfect for any and every home.

‘Consider how the couch will fit into your space. For smaller spaces, a loveseat pushed up against the wall may be all you need. Style it with a thick and textured throw blanket in complementary colours over the back of the couch—it can double as extra warmth for sleepover guests,’ Sachs suggests.

If you’re planning on using the sleeper couch in your living room, Sachs suggests styling it alongside lightweight or easily movable furniture pieces such as side tables, coffee tables and ottomans.
