Perched above the glistening waters of Hong Kong’s Southern District, this 3,493-square-foot residence redefines modern family living — offering the rare combination of refined sophistication, comfort, and environmental mindfulness. Designed by Clement C Studio, the home is wrapped in panoramic sea views so immersive they evoke the sensation of being aboard a floating retreat.
“The idea was to create a home that’s as beautiful as it is livable,” says Clement Cheng, founder of the eponymous studio. “This holistic approach transforms the home into a sanctuary where the family can thrive together, enjoying both refined living and everyday functionality.”
At the heart of the brief was a desire to cultivate a sense of serenity, artistry, and warmth — all while ensuring every surface, corner, and material could withstand the daily energy of three young children. The result is a masterclass in form meeting function: softly curved corners, pale wood tones, and delicate moldings flow through arched corridors and airy, open-plan spaces, creating a home that feels both grounded and ethereal.
Elegance Without Compromise
This is not a house where style plays second fiddle to practicality — nor vice versa. A series of floating wooden ceiling rings introduce sculptural flair and a sense of rhythm, while intricate marble detailing brings a timeless elegance to every surface. In the children’s play areas, interactive design features — from artistic wall panels to playful light fixtures — subtly encourage curiosity and creativity.
Storage has also been smartly considered. Built-in shelving and custom cabinetry keep clutter at bay, while the durable, easy-to-clean upholstery allows the adults to breathe easy during sticky-fingered adventures.
A Soft-Spoken Design Language
Throughout the home, Clement C Studio’s signature aesthetic — a blend of contemporary restraint with classical detail — is expressed through thoughtful layering. Curved forms in marble, metal, and wood appear not as ornamentation but as an integral part of the spatial flow. The colour palette remains hushed: soft creams, earthy tones, and warm neutrals echo the natural world just outside the full-height windows.
“The use of pale wood and fine paneling was very intentional,” explains Cheng. “It softens the entire atmosphere while quietly elevating it.”
Built to Last — and Last Responsibly
Beyond its visual harmony, the home demonstrates a firm commitment to environmental stewardship. Instead of a complete overhaul, the design team worked with the existing layout to reduce waste and preserve the building’s integrity.
Materials were meticulously planned to minimise off-cuts, while energy efficiency played a major role in systems integration. A Gira smart lighting system automatically responds to natural light levels throughout the day, and 3M-insulated window films ensure heat is kept out in summer and retained in cooler months.
The kitchen, by Arclinea, and bathrooms, fitted with Gessi accessories, are both functional and refined — making daily routines feel indulgent rather than mundane. Furniture from Minotti and crystal lighting by Saint-Louis inject understated glamour throughout the space.
In the end, this is more than just a family home — it is a serene refuge where design and practicality exist in perfect balance. For Clement Cheng and his team, the real success lies in how effortlessly the space accommodates the complexity of family life, while offering moments of calm, beauty, and joy at every turn.
