With Black Friday around the corner, it is interesting to find out what the approach to bargain hunting is from person to person. Some shoppers opt for restocking on household essentials, some enter shopping malls without a specific strategy, while others may choose not to participate in Black Friday at all. But as a group of savvy shoppers, the House & Garden SA team never shy away from a good bargain, especially if we’ve had our eye on something for months. Here is what the team is on the look out for this Black Friday:

Plate up with Poetry

Recently I have such an appreciation for homemade food. I don't have nearly enough time to cook as much as I used to, but when I do, pasta is one of my signature staples. These pasta plates are simple and understated and the scalloped edging add a beautiful extra detail to the design. these charcoal plates are probably going to be my new summer favourite dish; add a 40% saving to that and I'm sold. ― Yashna Balwanth, Acting Editor-in-Chief.

Scents of Place with Jo Malone

I would argue that you don't really need a reason to indulge in Jo Malone. However, I will admit that a Black Friday sale certainly makes it all the more alluring. So as the frenzy of retail's holiest day reaches boiling point, I will make a beeline to Jo Malone to replenish my favourites: the Lime Basil & Mandarin cologne, the Pomegranate Noir candle, and the Vitamin E lip balm. These are my staples – nay, dear reader, my necessities! – for the new season. ― Edwain Steenkamp, Decor Editor

Shop a Sample Sale

I don’t need to wait for Black Friday to sniff out a bargain, especially as South Africa’s retailers still have a long way to with giving consumers actual discounts. But, I do keep my ear to the ground of the few stores in SA who give shoppers a tease of a good sale that can exceed the dreaded 10-20% off sale tags. This year, I’m going to pop into Cape Town’s Inova Concept Store, which stocks one of my favourite homeware brands HAY, to see what pieces they will have during their one week only sample sale. I can’t wait!
