South African born entrepreneur Walter Bader has a rich family history in winemaking dating back to his father’s generation.

Young ,passionate and highly motivated, Bader & Walters Family Wines is carrying on the tradition of quality wine making for his family, focusing on producing wines that are environmentally sustainable, vegan-friendly and fit in with a healthy lifestyle.

Walter’s efforts were duly rewarded when their Sauvignon Blanc was awarded with a Double Gold Medal Award from the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards in 2019.

The fresh and crisp Sauvignon Blanc captures hints of cool green-grass notes, figs and gooseberries in the bouquet of grapes sourced from a variety of farms in the South African Winelands.

The 2019- 2020 John Platter review of the B&W Sauvignon Blanc described the wine as follows, ‘Aromas of white peach, pineapple skin, grapefruit, peach and green melon dominates the nose and follows through to the palate with crisp citrus and tropical fruits. Enjoy with seafood dishes, Asian Food, poultry dishes, and fresh salads.’

We had the privilege of tasting a few B&W wines including the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, the 2018 Merlot and 2018 Shiraz all Gold Medal Award-winning wines. We were pleasantly surprised by the smooth flavours and quality wines the brand offers.

The Shiraz 2018 tasting notes include aromas of strawberries, blueberries, tobacco and cinnamon while the 2018 Merlot has a dark and richer side to it with hints of blackberry, blueberry, vanilla and cloves.

Walter has plans to establish B&W wines into a well-known household brand with the best value for money at or below R100. He also plans to give back to the community, environment and people who work the land that produce the grapes used to make their wines.

A wine brand that offers quality and gives back to the community like B&W wines is sure to make a difference in the wine industry.
