There’s something about warmer seasons that make you feel up to new experiences and if you’re travelling over the festive season, why not make the most of the glorious seafood South Africa has to offer and try oysters?

South Africa is home to a variety of marine molluscs, so much so we’re even got a place named Oyster Bay. If you’re a fan of this delicacy (which can be an acquired taste), there’s nothing better than sharing some oysters with a good glass of wine or champagne. Here’s a few places you can check out if you’re in the area.

Oyster Box Hotel

Located in Umhlanga, the Oyster Box is a five-star hotel that offers a variety of dining experiences for guests and visitors alike. And of course, just like its name, the hotel does indeed offer oysters at their in-house restaurants. Visit their site or give them a call to book and find out about availability.

Clarke’s bar and dining room

A favourite with locals, Clarke’s Bar and dining room has a varied menu, which includes West Coast oysters at a reasonable price. But be sure to check beforehand as the menu is subject to change and oysters are subject to availability.

Seabreeze Bar

Another Bree Street and Cape Town hotspot, Seabreeze has a dedicated oyster and MCC bar. It’s perfect for quick after-work drinks watching the sunset or a weekend lunch outing with friends. Give them a call to book your spot.
