Model, aesthete, and soon-to-be Parisian Miranda Kerr has a surprisingly relaxed approach to setting up her home. Her Love. Joy. Bliss collection is full of glamorous neutrals, and crisp whites, but she is keen for folks to use them as a luxurious jumping-off point to create a home that is personal and vibrant. We chatted with Miranda about her approach to home.

Clever: What makes a house feel like a home to you? What are the pieces or details that really make it feel like your space?

Miranda Kerr: I love to decorate with personal touches like framed photographs of family and friends, my children’s artwork, my favorite crystals and candles, different artwork and pieces I’ve collected on travels. I love when the room feels clean and open, but also warm, inviting, and cozy. I like to use a neutral color palette with different textures and fabrics so it feels layered and you notice the details and variation up close. I love to add throws and pillows for pops of color. I actually had some of my scarves made into throw pillows for my living room and love them; it’s fun to use some of your favorites as pillow covers!

Any tips for setting up an all-white or mostly white space that still feels warm and welcoming?

Light colors provide a neutral and timeless base so that you can decorate with your own choice of color with textiles, artwork, and accessories. The neutral palette also allows you to update pillows, throws, and accent colors, depending on seasons, holiday, or mood. Since my collection is full of neutrals, the pieces also integrate easily with what people already have in their homes. We used performance fabrics on the couches and lounge chairs so they can easily be cleaned, so you don’t have to worry about getting the white furniture dirty or making it off-limits for kids. As I said, to me it’s all about the subtle details and personal touches that make it feel warm and welcoming.

What's the favorite part of your home?

My favorite part of my home is the kitchen. Our kitchen is the heart of our home and probably the most joyful space; we love cooking together and it is where we all gather and connect. Some of my fondest memories growing up were with my family in the kitchen and I hope my boys will feel the same.
