The 60th Edition of Salone del Mobile takes place this June in Milan at Fiera Milano playground, and to celebrate, the fair will shifts its focus to these values: quality, innovation, beauty and, now more than ever, sustainability. Although it is admittedly an ambitious choice to run at full capacity, the Salone aims to show that it is possible and important to hold great live events again, especially with the focus being on creating furniture that is sustainable.

The fair will consist of more than 2000 exhibitors under the Salone sections; Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and Workplace3.0, which are a highly-anticapated visual feastt for design lovers. An installation titled Design with Nature designed by Mario Cucinella ties in with the theme and offers a glimpse into the sustainable future of home living, a celebration of the 60th anniversary.

The June event will also feature the biennial exhibitions Technology For the Kitchen(FTK), the International Bathroom Exhibition. The S.Project, largely dedicated to showcasing product designs and large-scale project solutions will also be focused on sustainability and will highlight the most significant lines of research into surfaces and solutions that will allow the design of individual pieces to be transferred to that of whole environments.

“The Salone del Mobile has always been a catalyst for creativity, positivity and energy. We have always been a place of dialogue and construction, in Milan and at the Shanghai and Moscow editions. Now, we are as shocked as everyone else by the war in Ukraine and believe even more in the importance of being a crossroads of cultures and styles open to the world. This is why we have made sure that the work of the exhibiting exhibitors takes centre stage again,” explains. Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile. She adds, “we cannot stand still, in fact we have a duty to move even faster in the direction of design, production and distribution solutions that are as sustainable as possible – what we need today is an ethical approach to design”.

In addition to focusing on sustainability, this year’s event will also feature an initiative for emerging designers. More than 600 young designers will take part in an exhibition called Designing for our Future Selves, which forms part of Salone Sattelite.

The 60th edition will also expand its canvas and go beyond the fair ground to feature an installation of 11 Italian films in Palazzo Reale’s Sala delle Cariatidi.
