The festive season is in full swing and no matter where you are or what you choose to celebrate, Christmas movies are a genre in and of itself. There are some who swear by Die Hard as their favourite festive season watch, while others want to snuggle in and watch Elf. But ultimately, holiday movies are filled with festive cheer, lighthearted and an ongoing tradition for many of us. We’ve compiled a list of fun Christmas movies to add to your must-watch list or next Netflix session.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Love it or hate it, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a certified classic and perfect for anyone who isn’t big into the festive season stuff. Starring Jim Carrey as the title character, it’s spawned many memes, costumes and iconic lines.

Home Alone

Taking it back to 1990, the Macaulay Culkin classic is one that simply can’t be missed. Whether you get a laugh at the obvious jokes, the 90s fashion or that a family would, in fact, leave their child home alone - it’s a family friendly film that definitely has cemented it’s place as a festive season flick.

You guessed it, this 2003 flick is all about Santa’s little helper. Will Ferrell plays the main character, Buddy the Elf, a human raised amongst elves. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film went over to earn over $220 million worldwide and is a beloved film by children and adults alike.

The Nightmare before Christmas

Finally, to end it off with something spooky, this Tim Burton stop-motion animated film is one to behold. Released in 1993, this musical dark fantasy film is ideal for anyone who loves a ghostly tale. Get to know Jack Skellington and the rest of the gang this festive season.
